The first September self care topic is my daily make up kit. I’m not really big into make up and never have been, but since becoming a mum I have tired eye bags and dry skin, so I can’t just wash my face and waltz out the door anymore without looking like a sad panda. No more natural glow for me.
Sadly I don’t have the time to do a full face of glam, and it’s not really my style. Instead I have perfected a routine that takes under 5 minutes, isn’t too expensive and can sometimes be done with a curious baby sitting on my lap grabbing at my makeup and pulling my hair (NB, this skill takes practice). I wouldn’t say I wear this absolutely everyday. If I’m ill, have overslept or I’m just popping to the dog park or down the road for a pint of milk, I’ll probably skip it, but usually during the week we meet friends and go for coffee, or do an Ikea trip, and this is my trusty look. I have been known to glam it up slightly from time to time, but I’ll save that for another blog!
My kit contains:
Benefit Fake Up hydrating concealer, which doesn’t seem to be available on their website anymore but I’ve heard their boi-ing hydrating concealer is also brilliant. £17.50
Benefit Hello Flawless foundation in Ivory, £29
Benefit They’re Real lengthening mascara £20.50
The cheek of it blush in baby pink (can be found on ebay and amazon) £2.95. Mine is 7 years old and is still going strong! They also sell a perfect pink shade which looks stunning
Revolution Ultra 32 eyeshadow palette flawless 3 resurrection £8
I honestly couldn’t tell you where my blusher brush, foundation brush or blending sponge are from, and I use my finger for eyeshadow because I’m an animal, but the brushes won’t have been expensive high end ones, more likely Boots own. As long as you keep them clean and look after them, they’ll do the trick. I am of course lusting over those mermaid ones though!
Here we go, ‘exhausted mum’ to ‘made an effort’ in 5 minutes or less. I didn't edit either of these photos but they're taken in natural light by our bedroom window.
